Wood is still popular in interior architecture, design and object culture, there are countless possibilities for its manufactoring and use, and we also prefer to use it in the design of individual awards. In this article we showcase this exciting combination of materials through our previous projects.
Thank-You Gift at a University
We were asked to design a unique award by the Student Council of the Ybl Miklós Ybl Faculty of Civil Engineering at Szent István University, in recognition of a fellow graduate for his dedicated work as a member of the council. In response to the request, we turned to one of our favourite material combinations, concrete and wood, which are important materials in the construction industry. We laser engraved the dark walnut plinth. Read more about the project in this post.
Portfolio Property Awards – 2020
Property Investment Awards, organized by the Portfolio Group is one of the most anticipated events of the year, as it is the largest real estate meetup. The client was open to unique solutions during the design process, therefore we had a chance to apply one of our newly developed technologies, an extra thin concrete texture. In the production process materials and the distinct form language of construction were used.
The trophies themselves are acrylic plates, placed onto wooden bases. There is engraved text on the plates, which, due to how the light breaks on them, appears quite spectacularly. You can read more about the project here.
Concrete Cube on Wooden Pedestal – Wave Trophy
The Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation launched an environmental sustainability mentoring program (WAVE – World Added Value Equity) in which Hungarian start-ups participated, and the best start-up received the award at the end of the program. They approached us with a specific idea: they wanted to give us a cube on a corner as an award, which we did with a beautiful natural-looking wooden pedestal.
Saint-Gobain Sustainability Award
This company was the main sponsor of the Spokespeople’s Ball this year, and it was here that they presented the two special prizes that we had the pleasure of designing and creating. the awards is specifically a sustainability award, given each year to a representative of the company with the smallest ecological footprint and the most sustainable operations. To this end, a visual identity had to be created that incorporated sustainability features. Read more about the project in this post.
Dunakeszi Gliding Championship Awards
We were asked by Malév Aviation Club to create six trophies, with gold, silver and bronze trophies ordered in two categories. The request was to associate concrete with wood, and to somehow bring back the analogy of flight – hovering – airiness.
Water-clear acrylic layers were placed on the wooden plinth, the number of which indicated the level difference between the different locations, so visually the ranking is clearly visible and we can see a demanding, visible, but not loud end result. The inscriptions, as well as the surfaces between the different layers, were painted metallic – gold, silver or bronze, the individual elements were attached to each other with hidden screws. Wooden and Acrylic Awards in Sailboat Style
The corporate identity of our returning partner Navigator Investments Nyrt was based on a sailing theme, and the awards produced in the summer of 2022 were designed in this spirit. The wooden base features two acrylic plates, each with a right-angled triangular shape that subtly references sailing boats.
Wooden Pedestal Awards for the Design Terminal Mentoring Programme
The logo of the Design Terminal was placed on the pickled wooden pedestal, followed by a clear acrylic plate with an engraved inscription. Of course, the concrete also appears, giving the pieces an elegant look, as a very thin concrete texture has been placed on the acrylic plate, in which the inscription appears negatively. Awards for the National Chamber of Agriculture
For our first project of the year 2024, wood was also a prominent element in the Employee of the Year and Village Manager of the Year awards. Csilla Zsély, owner of the Fatipli workshop, created the bases for the awards, which were covered with clear acrylic sheets and our super-thin concrete coating, with a touch of Icelandic lichen added.
Wood and Acrylic Awards at the Forbes Gala
Also in collaboration with Csilla Zsély – Fatipli workshop, the awards were made by combining different types of acrylic sheets with wooden elements. For the asymmetrical shapes of the Diamond Awards we used silver and smoked glass acrylic with lighter shades of wood. For the Bridge Budapest awards, dark stained symmetrical wood elements with slightly rounded semi-opaque and smoked glass acrylic.
A Design Object Complete with Packaging – Wooden Gift Boxes
Some individual award projects put almost as much emphasis on the packaging of the prizes as on the trophy itself. In such cases we also offer wooden gift boxes to the customer. One of our examples is the window boxes for awards made to celebrate the completion of the modernisation of the Váci Cement Factory. The company ordered 50 custom concrete pedestals with engraved glass blocks depicting the factory building. The plywood boxes were painted black on the inside and the company logo was engraved on the outside.
JBS Equipment of Canada also chose a wooden gift box for its corporate awards. The lidded gift boxes were also made of plywood, this time treated with a dark coloured stain, and the interior design was adapted to the shape of the awards. The project is described in detail in this article.
What occasion can I order a designer trophy for?
It could be professional or sporting competitions, corporate celebrations, a souvenir of the completion of a successful project, a gift from staff to recognize a distinguished anniversary or outstanding achievement, or a leadership gift.
We dream trophies and souvenirs together with our customers. We find the solution for every idea, and our creativity provides added design value. Thanks to our experience in material associations, in addition to high-quality professional concrete, we also use a number of additional materials.
