Concrete Awards at the Spokespeople’s Ball
Two awards have recently been made for Saint-Gobain, on completely different themes. The company brings together 8 construction companies, and sustainability is a key priority for them, represented by many of their projects. Some projects involve restoring the landscape of a closed mine or quarry, which is no longer in operation, and then planting plants to allow nature to reclaim the site as soon as possible.
The main sponsor of the Spokepeople’s Ball in 2023 is Saint-Gobain Kft.
This company was the main sponsor of the Spokespeople’s Ball this year, and it was here that they presented the two special prizes that we had the pleasure of designing and creating. During the creative process, we consulted the client extensively, discussing exactly which prize would be awarded to which winner.
Sustainability award using natural materials
One of the awards is specifically a sustainability award, given each year to a representative of the company with the smallest ecological footprint and the most sustainable operations. To this end, a visual identity had to be created that incorporated sustainability features. One of the basic ideas behind the design was that nature is made up of interdependent systems, but that we need to take care that these systems remain stable.
In the front, an acrylic sheet on which we printed the sign and logo, with a rustic concrete surface at the junction of the concrete and acrylic. Behind the acrylic, we placed a wood panel, using the clear material to accentuate the beauty of the natural pattern of the veining. In the upper part of the object, we placed Icelandic lichen, a reference to the plant cover on our planet that we have a duty to protect.
A seemingly unstable shape as an attention grabber
The real uniqueness of the object lies in its basic shape, because from the front the prize looks a little unstable, but the weight distribution of the concrete base underneath gives it the stability to stand still when tilted sideways.
Product Sample at the Product Communication Award
The other prize was awarded to the winner who most authentically communicated one of Saint Gobain’s products, neon light paint. This paint was of course used as planned for the prize. We painted the luminous paint on the acrylic behind the text, so that it shines through in the dark and displays the lettering. The paint is also applied at the junction of the matte finish clear acrylic sheet on top of the object and the white colored concrete, the paint translucently illuminates the acrylic nicely as if the whole block is lit up.
