We were approached by the organisers of the exhibition earlier this year to create a unique set of awards to be given out to exhibiting companies in four categories. The specific request was that the four prizes should be different, yet similar, with basic shapes developed along a common thread of thought.
When asked why AB Concrete Design was chosen, this is the answer we received from the organizer:
“I found you through an internet search, I typed in “concrete trophy”. There were several sites, but yours was by far the most professional, with the most beautiful trophies and the largest selection. We were particularly attracted to the fact that you design trophies for personal/project use, not just drop one off the shelf.”
The event took place in March, as the UK’s and Europe’s largest concrete trade show, The UK Concrete Show, was held in Birmingham in the middle of the month for the 11th time for now.
The event is designed to give exhibiting companies a platform to showcase their products and make personal contacts, and for start-up companies it is a great opportunity to enter the market. Interestingly, visitors from around the world were able to meet up to 5,000 concrete industry professionals over two days.
Form Variations on a theme – a collection of four different awards
The event logo features two hands behind the inscription holding a concrete cube, so the regular cube shape was an obvious starting point for the design. Concrete cubes of different sizes were combined with clear acrylic sheets in different proportions, combining the two elements in different ways. The rustic overall look of the rigid materials and the regular shapes was solved with the colour red.
The colour in the logo was also applied to the edges of the acrylic plates, which elegantly frames the lettering. The event logo is on top, the year is on the concrete cubes and the category names are in the centre of the object.
From hundreds of exhibitors, a panel of experts selected the best in the concrete industry, the lucky winners. These awards are highly regarded in the industry and the winners are delighted and proud to announce that they have received one of the awards.
The names of the winning companies were engraved on the plates afterwards, so we gave the awards in a way that the plates were removable. We prepared the files for the printers who did the lettering, aligning the names of the winners in the right places using the right font.
